Destination sets the process; passport sets the document pack. # Visa From the UAE: Which Process Is Yours, and Where You Apply *"Online it shows I don't need visa to visit Georgia as a tourist. Is it true? I just want to be sure."* An Indian-passport UAE resident wrote that on r/UAE, 16 May 2026. Sometimes the answer is yes. When it comes back as *you need to apply*, you land here. This page is the handoff from the visa-free checker. Four destinations run a full application process from the UAE: Schengen, the UK, the United States and Canada. Pick your destination first. This page routes you to yours — one orientation not four guides — and re-runs none of them. ## Do UAE residents need a visa, and where do you actually apply Applying for a visa from the UAE starts with your passport, not your Emirates ID. You apply from the UAE on your residence, never from your home country. All four processes accept that. Schengen runs through the consulate of your main destination. The UK runs through gov.uk. The US runs through the embassy scheduling system. Canada runs through the IRCC portal. The first split is application-required vs visa-free destination. Your passport plus your UAE residence may already clear you for visa-free or visa-on-arrival entry. That answer sits in the [visa-free and visa-on-arrival checker](/visa-free/). Check it against the destination's own published rule, not against a travel agent. One Dubai resident was told by his agency he qualified for visa-free entry to Armenia. Days later the same agency told him to file an e-visa, with a flight already booked for 25 May 2026 (r/armenia, 21 May 2026). The agency changed its mind. The rule had not moved. Rumour and embassy disagree in public too. Travel pages claimed UAE residents of three years or more could enter Montenegro visa-free. The rule they quoted covered trips under 10 days, until 1 October 2026. A resident hunting for the rule found the opposite: the Montenegro embassy page for the UAE still told residents of visa-required countries to apply (r/UAE, 23 June 2026). We did not open that page ourselves. We print both sides. Watch one date either way: your residence permit valid beyond your trip. The resident above found Armenia's official rule asks for six months of UAE or GCC residency validity from the date of entry. His had five months and twenty days left. ## Two decisions run the whole thing: your destination decides the process, your passport decides the document pack Destination first, passport second. Your destination decides the process, which government, which form, which centre. Your passport decides the document pack. It also decides whether you need a visa at all. Reverse that order and you pick a Schengen country because a slot is open. That reads as visa shopping. Both authorities we opened put the weight on nationality. The European Commission's visa-policy page sends the question to Annex I of Regulation (EU) 2018/1806. That is a list of nationalities, read 21 July 2026. gov.uk says what you need "depends on: your nationality". Neither carries a line for residence permits. The search results ask the second half of that rule constantly and settle it nowhere. Five of the 14 zone queries we sampled raise it in People-Also-Ask, one destination at a time: *"Can UAE residents get an UK visa?"*, *"Do UAE citizens need a visa for Canada?"*, *"Do UAE residents need a Schengen visa?"* Asked five times, answered as a general rule by nobody. This is UAE national vs UAE resident routing, and it is why nobody can hand you one rule for "UAE resident". We have not verified a US exemption either way. That cell says what we know and no more. VFS Global runs the Dubai and Abu Dhabi centres for most Schengen countries and for the UK. Spain uses BLS International in Dubai instead. Different brand, different queue, checked 20 July 2026. The US uses none of them. Interviews happen at the embassy in Abu Dhabi or the consulate in Dubai. Slot scarcity has its own tactics, and they live on that same hub. ## What this page will not do, and the one question we ask No fee tables here, no document lists, no processing times. Each decays at its own speed. Each belongs beside its own check date, on the page that owns it. A visa from the UAE is decided by the destination's authority, and never by us. One warning covers every outbound visa from the UAE. Since May 2026, a cover letter or itinerary that reads as machine-written is a live refusal risk. One refused applicant put it plainly: *"my itinerary looked template like, yes I did use chat GPT to format it"* (r/SchengenVisa, 10 May 2026). Write yours yourself. Keep it short, with real dates and real hotel names.
How this was checked. Two official sources were opened live for this page on 21 July 2026: the European Commission's visa policy page, page-dated 23 June 2025, which names Annex I of Regulation (EU) 2018/1806 as the list of nationalities requiring a Schengen visa; and gov.uk/eta, quoted above. Two more refused us the same day: canada.ca reset the connection and travel.state.gov returned HTTP 403. We did not read them in this pass and we claim nothing from them. Every permit name in the fork table is carried from our four destination pillars. Each holds its own primary sources and check dates: 21 July 2026 for Schengen, the UK, Canada and the appointment roster; 20 July 2026 for the US and the BLS Spain office. The search-results counts come from our own cached snapshot of 14 zone queries, captured 20 July 2026: zero featured snippets, an AI Overview on all 14. Applicant quotes are named, dated public threads. They are individual reports, not a sample. The Montenegro pair is second-hand on both sides: we did not open the Montenegro embassy page and we quote a dated applicant report that did.
