On 20 July 2026 both UAE posts sat under one official “Suspension of Routine Visa Services” notice, so neither is the faster building right now. The file is identical either way. Interview or dropbox?
The interview-waiver rules tightened twice in two years, in 2023 and again in 2024, so dropbox eligibility is a live question rather than a settled one. The wait-time reality, and how people still travel on time
Interviews were running roughly a year out in 2026. One Dubai date jumped from 30 March to 31 August in a single reschedule (r/usvisascheduling, 6 May 2026). What does not move is the shape of the problem and the two levers against it. The community refrain is blunt: book a slot a year out and hold it, because early dates are scarce. Treat an earlier date as a bonus, not the plan.
The first lever is the third-country attempt. It usually fails on a technicality, not a policy. One active profile blocks a second. Residents booking in Oman or at home to escape the UAE queue hit a “profile matches in database” error in the scheduling system (r/usvisascheduling, 11 July 2026). The second lever is the emergency appointment request. It is the one that actually moves dates. It costs nothing and it creates nothing. It asks the post to reschedule a slot you already hold. So you need a paid MRV fee and a booked regular appointment before you can ask at all. Book the far-off date first. Then request the earlier one. On a fixed-date, evidenced reason, one documented Dubai run moved an interview from 31 August to 29 April 2026 (r/usvisascheduling, 6 May 2026). What the officer actually asks — three-minute interviews are normal
Three minutes and four or five questions is a normal US visa interview. The officer asks your purpose, your work, your funds and your travel history. Then a decision comes at the window. Green slip approval means the visa is granted and your passport goes for stamping. A hold is the yellow sheet: administrative processing 221(g), open-ended in time.
Take a documented case from 16 July 2026. A married couple were visiting a brother on an H1B. Their prior travel covered France, Italy, Dubai, Switzerland and Thailand. The interview ran three minutes. Four questions: purpose of visit, what each of them does, combined income, and whether they had travelled abroad before (r/USVisas). Approval was immediate.

Bring documents that read as yours, not as a generator’s.
The two outcomes have their own vocabulary and their own clocks. A green slip means approved. You hand over the passport, and it returns stamped by courier within days. A yellow sheet means administrative processing under section 221(g). It is often a background or social-media check, with no promised end date.
