One reduced-fee note: a EUR 35 facilitation fee exists (EU Visa Code, checked 21 July 2026), but only for nationals of countries with an EU visa-facilitation agreement. Visiting family in Spain: the carta de invitación and the multi-entry ask

To stay in a relative’s private home in Spain you need a carta de invitación — a host letter the resident or citizen obtains from the Policía Nacional, which certifies your accommodation. No ranking page in the 79 results explains this for UAE applicants, and one reader is the exact case. He is a UAE-resident expat whose parents-in-law hold Spanish PR; he wants to visit them “on short notice in the future,” but his actual trip peaks in France (r/SchengenVisa, 1 July 2026). Two things decide his file. First, the main-destination rule: the consulate is set by where you spend the most nights — France here — so a France-heavy itinerary goes to the French consulate, not BLS Spain, even with a Spanish family tie. A family link in Spain does not move a France-heavy file. Second, the multiple-entry ask: a documented, ongoing family tie plus a clean travel history can support a request for longer validity and multiple entries — but the consulate you correctly apply to grants it, and only for a file where the tie and the itinerary line up. Ask for it in the country your trip actually centres on.

Documents the Spanish consulate actually checks

The consulate checks a short, fixed set: a passport valid with margin beyond return, your valid UAE residence visa, the EUR 90 fee, travel medical insurance covering at least EUR 30,000 (the Schengen minimum under the EU Visa Code, checked 21 July 2026), proof of accommodation, proof of means, a return ticket and a coherent itinerary. One caution the incumbents skip: a template-looking, AI-generated itinerary or cover letter is a live refusal vector. You are not blocked because your profile is deficient — the reader here is a competent, well-travelled resident stuck behind a booking portal. But hand the consulate a document that reads as machine-generated and you invite the doubt. Only if Spain is your main destination — the most nights, or the first entry when nights are equal. A France-heavy trip with a Spanish family tie still goes to the French consulate.
