Vietnam e-Visa From the UAE 2026: Every Nationality Qualifies — but It Takes up to 30 Working Days and Only Some Border Gates Accept It

The Vietnam e-Visa is an online entry permit issued to citizens of all countries and territories, a policy in force since 15 August 2023. For a UAE resident that makes it the mirror image of Türkiye: there, your nationality decides everything and your residence counts for nothing. Here, neither is an obstacle.

The obstacle is the calendar, and the second one is the map.

The processing window is the real constraint

Five to thirty working days is a wide range, and the top of it is what you plan around.

Thirty working days is roughly six calendar weeks. An e-Visa that is fully online, paid by card and issued by email still is not an instant document — the “e” describes the channel, not the speed. This is where Vietnam differs most sharply from the Saudi tourist eVisa, which the state describes as issued instantly.

Two practical rules follow. Apply before you buy non-refundable tickets, not after. And if you are travelling in a group, apply on the same day — files submitted a week apart can land a month apart.

The passport rule that voids an approved visa

Your visa’s expiry must fall at least 30 days before your passport’s expiry.

This is not the usual “six months validity” convention, and it works backwards from the date most people check. A passport with four months left does not simply limit your stay — it constrains what visa the system can issue you at all, because the e-Visa expiry has to clear that 30-day margin.

Check the arithmetic before applying: passport expiry, minus 30 days, is the latest date your e-Visa can run to. If that date is before your intended return, renew the passport first.

Designated border gates

An e-Visa is not valid at every crossing. Holders must enter and exit through international border gates designated by the government.

For the usual UAE routing — a direct or one-stop flight into Ho Chi Minh City, Hanoi or Da Nang — this is rarely a problem, because the major international airports are on the list. It becomes a problem on land crossings from Cambodia, Laos or China, and on smaller regional airports, where the designation is not automatic.

If your itinerary includes an overland leg, confirm the specific gate on the official portal before booking that segment. A refusal at a non-designated crossing is not a paperwork error you can argue at the counter.

Single or multiple entry

The choice is USD 25 against USD 50, and it is about routing, not stay length.

Both types carry the same 90-day maximum validity. Multiple entry earns its extra USD 25 only if you plan to leave Vietnam and return within the same visa — a side trip to Cambodia or Thailand mid-stay is the common case. A single continuous visit does not need it.

Where UAE applicants get this wrong

Three assumptions cause most of the trouble, and none are about eligibility.

Treating “e-Visa” as “instant”. The published window tops out at 30 working days. Applying a week before departure is how a valid application still misses the flight.

Applying through a lookalike site. Vietnam e-Visa is heavily impersonated, and intermediaries charge a multiple of the USD 25 state fee for the same form. The official portal is evisa.gov.vn.

Assuming the UAE residence matters. It does not — in either direction. It is neither a qualification nor a disqualification here, which is worth stating plainly because on the Turkey route the same document is the whole argument, and on the Saudi route it is what qualifies you.

How to verify this before you book

Fees and processing windows change, and only the state portal binds.

Apply and check current terms at evisa.gov.vn, read the official FAQ for the passport-validity and border-gate rules, and use the national immigration portal for the wider visa picture if your trip is not simple tourism.
