Vietnam Visa for Indians in the UAE 2026: The e-Visa Is Official but Slow — and Visa on Arrival Is the Faster Route Nobody Explains Properly
For an Indian passport holder in the UAE, Vietnam is the easy case on eligibility and the awkward case on timing. Since 15 August 2023, Vietnam issues e-Visas to citizens of all countries and territories — no qualifying document from a third country, no residence test, no nationality condition.
Your Emirates ID does not help here, and it does not need to.
What does need deciding is the route, because there are two and they differ on the one thing that usually matters: speed.

e-Visa or visa on arrival
The state channel is cheaper and slower. The arrival channel is faster and runs through a private intermediary.
e-Visa | Visa on arrival | |
|---|---|---|
Channel | State portal, evisa.gov.vn | Pre-approval letter via an agency, stamped at the airport |
Published fee | USD 25 single · USD 50 multiple | Agency fee + cash stamping fee at the counter |
Speed | 5 – 30 working days (state-published) | Commonly quoted at 2 – 3 working days |
Issued | Before you fly, by email | On landing, at the VOA counter |
Where valid | Designated international border gates | Designated international airports only |
The e-Visa figures come from evisa.gov.vn and its FAQ, read 29 July 2026. The visa-on-arrival timings are agency-quoted, not state-published — which is the first thing to understand about that route.
Why visa on arrival is faster, and what you pay for it
The e-Visa’s published window tops out at 30 working days — roughly six calendar weeks. That is the number to plan around, not the five-day floor.
Visa on arrival compresses this because the pre-approval letter is a different instrument: an agency files for approval on your behalf, and the visa itself is stamped when you land. The commonly quoted turnaround is 2 to 3 working days, with paid expedite options below that.
The cost of that speed is transparency. USD 25 is a state price you can verify on a government page. An agency fee is a market price that varies by provider, and the stamping fee is paid in cash at the counter on arrival. You are buying speed with money and with a slightly less legible paper trail.
Our rule of thumb: if you have six weeks, use the e-Visa and pay the state USD 25. If you have ten days, the arrival route exists for exactly that situation — but choose the agency carefully, because this is the part of the market where lookalike sites cluster.
What visa on arrival asks of an Indian passport
Four conditions are consistently listed, and they are stricter than the e-Visa’s.
- A valid Indian passport with at least six months of remaining validity from the date of entry
- Confirmed onward travel out of Vietnam
- Sufficient funds for the stay
- Passport photos and the stamping fee in cash, presented at the VOA counter
Note the six-month rule. The e-Visa uses a different and less obvious test — your visa expiry must fall at least 30 days before your passport expiry, which is arithmetic rather than a flat six-month floor. The two routes fail on passport validity in different ways, so check against the route you are actually taking.
The rule that catches people on both routes
Vietnam e-Visas are valid only at designated international border gates.
For the usual UAE routing — a direct or one-stop flight into Ho Chi Minh City, Hanoi or Da Nang — the major airports are on the list and this rarely bites. It bites on land crossings from Cambodia, Laos or China, and at smaller regional airports, where the designation is not automatic.
Visa on arrival is stricter still: it is an airport mechanism. A land border is not a VOA counter. If your itinerary includes an overland leg, the e-Visa is the route that can accommodate it, and even then only at a designated gate.
How this compares with your other options from the UAE
Vietnam sits at one end of a spectrum that is worth seeing whole, because the same Indian passport gets three completely different answers.
Türkiye asks for a qualifying document your UAE residence cannot satisfy — a valid Schengen, USA, UK or Ireland visa or residence. Without one, the e-Visa route is closed entirely, as our Turkey visa for Indians page sets out.
Saudi Arabia goes the other way: your GCC residence is precisely what qualifies you, per our Saudi visa guide.
Vietnam ignores the question. Nationality is not a filter and residence is not a factor — only the calendar is.
That contrast is the practical reason to keep all three straight: the document that is decisive in one case is irrelevant in the next.
Where Indian applicants get this wrong
Three errors account for most of the trouble.
Treating the e-Visa as instant because it is online. Up to 30 working days is the published ceiling. Booking non-refundable tickets first is how a valid application misses its flight.
Assuming visa on arrival can be done entirely at the airport. It cannot. The pre-approval letter must exist before you fly. Arriving without one is not a VOA — it is a refusal.
Paying a markup for the e-Visa. The state fee is USD 25. Intermediaries charge multiples of that for the same form on the same portal. For the e-Visa specifically, there is no reason to use one.
How to verify this before you book
The state portal governs the e-Visa. The agency governs its own terms on the arrival route — which is exactly why the two need checking differently.
Apply and confirm current e-Visa terms at evisa.gov.vn, read the official FAQ for the passport-validity and border-gate rules, and check pre-arrival information from the Immigration Department before travel. The policy admitting all nationalities is documented in the foreign ministry’s announcement.
For visa on arrival, treat any timing or price you are quoted as that provider’s commitment rather than a state figure, and get it in writing before you pay.
If a figure here no longer matches the portal, tell us and we will correct the page — we date every number for exactly this reason.
