Phone and Data for Umrah from the UAE: e& and du Umrah Packs vs a Saudi Data eSIM, in AED

An e& Umrah Pack costs AED 100 for 7GB on prepaid or AED 150 for 15GB on postpaid. Either runs 7 days from first use on Mobily, STC or Zain in Saudi Arabia (eand.ae, opened 24 October 2026). That is the operator baseline. This page sets it against du’s Umrah bundle and a data-only Saudi eSIM, and fits the phone into the Umrah checklist. The visa and permit side lives in our Umrah visa guide.

Why the phone belongs on the Umrah checklist

Without a roaming pack, a UAE line carries no mobile data in Saudi Arabia: e&, du and Virgin Mobile block it by default (per eSIM Go, 15 October 2026). The timed Umrah permit is booked inside Nusuk once you are in the Kingdom (Khaleej Times, 22 August 2025, as set out in our Umrah guide).

Phone and Data for Umrah from the UAE: e& and du Umrah Packs vs a Saudi Data eSIM, in AED

Most residents enter on the Saudi tourist e-visa, then book the permit in Nusuk on arrival. Nusuk runs online. A phone with no data on landing turns that step into a hunt for Wi-Fi. Sort the line before ihram, not at the hotel.

The Umrah packs and a data eSIM, side by side

A week of Umrah data costs AED 75.99 to AED 150. e& charges AED 100 (7GB, prepaid) or AED 150 (15GB, postpaid). du charges AED 150 for 10GB and 1000 minutes. A 10GB, 30-day Saudi data eSIM is AED 75.99 (e& opened 24 October 2026; du and the eSIM per eSIM Go, 19 October 2026).

e&'s 650 minutes are “for receiving calls from anywhere and making calls to UAE & KSA” (eand.ae, 24 October 2026). du says its Umrah bundle “only works within Saudi Arabia” (du.ae, opened 24 October 2026). The du and eSIM rows are as published by eSIM Go on 19 October 2026. The full comparison, with per-GB and per-day arithmetic, is on eSIM Go’s Umrah and Hajj roaming page.

Disclosure: eSIM Go is run by the same team as this desk. It pays nothing for these mentions and has no say over any visa figure on this site.

When the days start: e& at first use, du at purchase

7 days from first eligible usage on Mobily, STC or Zain: that is e&'s clock (eand.ae, 24 October 2026). du’s Umrah bundle starts on purchase, so a bundle bought 2 days early burns AED 42.86 of its AED 150 before you land (du via eSIM Go, 19 October 2026; eSIM Go’s arithmetic).

Buy the e& pack before you leave. Buy the du bundle on the day you fly. A Saudi data eSIM installs at home up to 365 days ahead and starts its days at the first connection in Saudi Arabia (eSIM Go, 15 October 2026).

Driving? One r/dubai poster wrote on 27 December 2024 that “as soon as you cross the border and enter KSA, your UAE mobile service will stop, unless you have active roaming” (quoted by eSIM Go). That is one person’s experience. The fix is the same either way: buy the pack or install the eSIM before you set off.

Calls home or data: decide by how often you call

AED 2.203 a minute is e&'s pay-as-you-go rate for calling the UAE from the GCC (eand.ae, opened 24 October 2026). Ten minutes a day for a week is AED 154.21 (our arithmetic). That is more than the whole AED 150 postpaid pack. If calls matter, buy minutes; a data eSIM has none.

Data needs are smaller than most people buy. eSIM Go’s calculator assumes 0.3GB a day for maps and messaging, 0.8GB for social media and photos, and 1.7GB for video and video calls (15 October 2026). Over 7 days that is 2.1GB, 5.6GB or 11.9GB (our arithmetic). The e& prepaid 7GB covers the first two profiles. Only the e& postpaid 15GB covers all three.

Longer stays and families

AED 189.99 buys 25GB for 45 days on the Saudi data eSIM, about AED 4.22 a day (eSIM Go, 15 October 2026). e& allows its Umrah Pack “up to 2 times at any given time”, so two packs cover 14 days (per eSIM Go). du’s bundle starts at purchase, so buy a second one only when the first ends.

Each line needs its own pack, and each phone its own eSIM. Four e& prepaid packs cost AED 400. Four e& postpaid packs or four du bundles cost AED 600 (our arithmetic). An eSIM needs a supporting phone: Apple lists “iPhone XS, iPhone XS Max, iPhone XR, or later” (Apple Support UAE, via eSIM Go, 15 October 2026). A parent’s older phone can take the operator pack while newer phones take an eSIM. Plan sizes up to 45 days are on the Saudi Arabia eSIM page.

A local SIM is a third route. An stc visitor SIM costs SAR 31 for 6GB and 2 weeks, but the number works only after you activate it at a branch in Saudi Arabia (eSIM Go, 20 October 2026). The trade-offs are in eSIM Go’s guide to a Saudi SIM card from the UAE.

Before ihram: the phone checklist

  1. Install the data eSIM at home over Wi-Fi. It connects when you land in Saudi Arabia.
  2. Or buy the e& Umrah Pack before you leave, and du’s bundle on the day you fly.
  3. On a du line, text “roaming” to 5102 to check roaming is active. du activates it by default “for UAE nationals only” (per eSIM Go, 15 October 2026).
  4. Keep the UAE SIM switched on for calls and SMS, and set the eSIM as the data line. The settings are in how to keep your UAE number on beside a data eSIM.
  5. Visa, permit and Nusuk steps: our Umrah visa guide. Other Saudi trips: Saudi visa from the UAE.

Phone and data for Umrah: questions people ask

How much is the e& Umrah Pack?
AED 100 for 7GB on prepaid or AED 150 for 15GB on postpaid, each with 650 roaming minutes plus 50 for other preferred countries, valid 7 days from first eligible usage on Mobily, STC or Zain in Saudi Arabia (eand.ae, opened 24 October 2026).
Does the du Umrah bundle start when I land?
No. du lists "Immediate activation upon purchase" for its Hajj and Umrah bundle (per eSIM Go, 19 October 2026), so buy it on the day you fly, not days ahead.
Will a Saudi data eSIM give me a Saudi phone number?
No. eSIM Go's Saudi Arabia eSIMs are data-only, with no calls, no SMS and no number (20 October 2026). Calls and SMS stay on your UAE line, which should stay switched on.
Do I need mobile data to book the Umrah permit?
The timed Umrah permit is booked inside Nusuk once you are in the Kingdom (Khaleej Times, 22 August 2025). Nusuk runs online, so plan a working data line for arrival rather than relying on hotel Wi-Fi.

What we could not verify

  • du’s Umrah prices. We opened du.ae on 24 October 2026; the page confirms the Umrah bundle “only works within Saudi Arabia”, but its text did not show the AED 150 price. That figure is eSIM Go’s, checked 19 October 2026.
  • Whether Nusuk needs a Saudi number to book. We did not open the Nusuk app for this draft and make no claim.
  • Hotspot sharing on Saudi plans. eSIM Go states it has no confirmed rule, so ask before buying one eSIM for several phones.
  • Hajj-specific figures. We found none; use the same arithmetic of days times data per day, plus minutes.

Performed Umrah recently and paid a different price for your pack? Tell us, with the date, and we will correct the table.

We are not affiliated with e&, du, Nusuk, the Saudi Ministry of Hajj and Umrah or any Umrah agency. This desk sells nothing. eSIM Go, linked above, is a separate shop run by the same team, and we name it as such wherever we link it.
